WHAT IS 'ABANDROID'

Abandroid is 'The big one'

A story I've been writing, refining and remaking for over 5 years.
I view this project in high regard, but I don't view it as my 'Magnum opus'.

This project has a special place in my heart, and for as long as I have a pulse, a creative mind and some spare time I will keep chipping at it until I can properly release it someday.

what did I contribute?

DESIGN

1 YEAR OF DIGITAL ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT.

After this first year of what is arguable the best educational experience I've had so far, During my UI/UX exam a little light went off in my head.

THE APPROACH

A voice in my head told me: "You could adapt your story into the exercise... Maybe it'll be worth it?"

Turns out: It was! I was met with people speedrunning the game, praise and a lot of wonderful feedback from all around, and above all that a perfect grade on the exam itself!

IN EXECUTION

Our wonderful teacher 'Kasper' told us "Not to design a game during the exercise!"

My strongheaded self, did not listen. And spent around making big bombastic changes and approaches to the project. They were thankfully scoped down into a small, 5-10minute experience about a girl, lost in a digital realm.

Nowadays, Abandroid is in development for a demo release! It will take some time (and money) to make it real. But I'm in it for the long run.

DEVELOPMENT

Abandoning the ship, leaving ashore.

THE APPROACH

Making Abandroid is no small feat. Starting from scratch after the UI/UX exam, I immediately started work on my core systems: Movement, Interaction & Music.

IN EXECUTION

Using what I learned in GeneTiCA about Fmod, I immediately added it into my core. Working in tandem with Steam Audio for full control over the sound. Alongside that I took great inspiration from Valve's Half-Life: 2 series for my movement. While the game is still in development, I Feel good about sharing a small amount of my progress here.

ART

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

THE APPROACH

The art in this project took a sharp turn left when I started making the full game. I stopped shying away from colors and went full in. (Fun fact: The color scheme of this website uses the same colors as this game!)

IN EXECUTION

The big change in approach came after my need for colors that POPPED, I took inspiration from the high-contrast 80s and 90s sets for that big BOOM of colors. While still tying it in with my big overarching narrative

WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE...

Abandroid is my Benchmark. It shows me what I understand and what I don't. It's a great way to measure progress of where I used to be and where I am now.
